About us

The project "Establishment of Center for Agri-Policy Analysis (CAPA)" was created in 2013 by the Institute of Agricultural Economics in associate partnership with the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute at the University of Missouri (FAPRI-MU), project funded by "America for Bulgaria Foundation". The concept of the project is to develop specific agricultural econometric models that comply with the local circumstances and conditions; relying on the FAPRI experience and approach in implementing such activities and methods.  The sectors included in the analysis (cereals, oilseeds, dairy, meat and horticulture) represent the main production activities in Bulgarian agriculture.

From mid-2016 to 2019 CAPA project activities are supported with a new grant from America for Bulgaria Foundation “Strengthening the Analytical and Public Outreach Capacity of the Center for Agricultural Policy Analysis (CAPA) at the Institute of Agricultural Economics”. Primary objective of this grant is to provide continued support to the Center in order to strengthen analytical and public outreach capacity. The ongoing collaboration with the Food and Agri-Policy Research Institute (FAPRI-MU), will develop expertise to run different scenarios and reveal outlook based on the econometric models.

The team will also strive to develop a price forecast model for the grains sector and establish the CAPA as a platform for discussion and solutions-seeking both at micro and macro level, providing objective quantitative analyses, while working closer with farmers’ unions, agri-business structures in the country and looking for involvement in project networks across the EU.
